And so, the story goes, Nate had Innova take an 11X Firebird and recreate the mold for his new signature Firebird, which would be a cast in a blend of champion plastic and glow plastic.

In 2014, Nate accomplished one of his dreams of being added to the Innova Star Team, Innova’s premium pro squad. (An unthrown 11X is currently worth around $100+). Nate Sexton was one of the many pro disc golfers who loved the "11X Firebirds" but because of supply and demand, the prices on 11X were already doubling, tripling the original value of the discs. His ability to play and broadcast disc golf made him personable and, to this day, I don't think I have ever heard anyone say anything negative about Nate Sexton. Nate was one of Innova's best ambassadors for the sport and one of its most up-and-coming players on their roster. This is where Nate Sexton comes into play. In that, they are perhaps the most versatile utility disc ever made, which certainly adds to their allure. People use them for forehands, backhands, thumbers, tomahawks, grenades, and even rollers. Firebirds have the flight numbers 9 3 0 4, and are classified as a Fairway Driver. Somewhere in that four-year span, something changed ever-so-slightly with the Firebird molds and many people who threw "11X Firebirds" stocked up on them rather than switching to the slightly more overstable "12X Firebirds". In 2006, Ken won his 12th World Championship, which brought about a new stamp with the 12X World Champion script. Little did they know that this run would be the most highly sought after Firebirds made due to the consistency of their flight. Shortly thereafter, Innova put out a champion Firebird with Ken's signature and 11X World Champion on the stamp. In 2002, Ken won his 11th World Championship. Innova Disc Golf sponsored Ken and on many older champion plastic discs, you will find the signature of Ken Climo and the number of World Championships that he had won to that date. Ken "The Champ" Climo won 12 PDGA World Championships, a feat unparalleled by any other disc golfer to date. It's ridiculously OS for a Thunderbird, and I use them interchangeably for spike hyzers. In order to understand the history of Nate Sexton firebirds, we must first speak of Ken Climo. I have a Star Thunderbird (not a Jermbird) that is basically a Firebird. The most overstable Thunderbirds you can find off the shelf are pretty much equivalent (not exact, but close) to the least overstable Firebirds you can find of the shelf (which as of this year is likely the 2018 Sexton Firebird). When you get in to the extreme ranges of both molds they start to overlap. You're right - they are different discs, Firebirds skip more and fade more across, but that's why it's a comparison :) It's completely logical and normal to compare the two. The Thunderbird fills the super beat up Firebird slot of the old days. Then the Thunderbird came, and many took their PDs out.

It made it in to the bag of many, and pretty much filled that slot that was really hard to fill. It took a while to get to that point, and losing one blew. Not crazy hard like a fresh Firebird, just consistent fade.

That throw flat and hard, and it will fade at the end everytime, type of disc. This is coincidental because another poster the other day seemed to scoff at a Thunderbird/Firebird comparison, so here's the same spiel īefore the Discmania PD a beatup Firebird was a very coveted disc. That's an incredibly polite response, so, thanks for that.I also noticed you were drinking and I was slightly poking fun at that, so glad you didn't take my comment too seriously. r/discgolfauctions - Auction off disc golf discs and disc golf related products Useful Info To avoid repetitive content we will create Megathreads and Stickies for users to share to and avoid issues of dozens of similar posts.
